Doug Reviews: God’s Pocket
Mad Men’s John Slattery makes his feature directorial debut with God’s Pocket, an adaptation of Pete Dexter’s novel of the same name. The film features one of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s final performances, but is it any good? Well, that may be in the eye of the beholder. Continue reading
Doug Reviews: Godzilla 2014
To paraphrase Ian Malcom, Jeff Goldblum’s character in Jurassic Park, “Now, you do intend to have Godzilla in your Godzilla movie, yes?” Director Gareth Edwards does a lot of things right in his re-introduction of Godzilla to American audiences, but the end result is ultimately unsatisfying with a weak narrative and too much teasing of the audience. Doug: 2014 Summer Movie Preview

Like I did last year, I’ll be focusing on a small list of titles, as there are over a hundred films due out over the next four months. I’ll detail some that I really want to see, a bunch that are interesting and will probably check out, some I’m on the fence about, and the few that I have absolutely zero interest in and may even actively campaign against. Don’t forget to click on the film titles to see trailers (if one has been released yet). I’ve compiled the lists in order of release—as of right now—and we kick it off with the return of a certain web-crawler. Continue reading
Doug Reviews – Captain America: The Winter Soldier
We’ll be posting our podcast about the new Captain America film a lot closer to the worldwide release in April, but I was lucky enough to catch an early screening last night. Continue reading
