Child 44, the latest film from Director Daniel Espinosa, should be a taut thriller with a solid cast, but in actuality, it’s kind of a mess. Continue reading

Doug’s 2015 Summer Movie Preview!
It’s that time of year again when the temperatures remind those in denial that maybe the Earth is getting hotter and everyone seeks shelter in the air-conditioned sanctuary that is the local multiplex. But what to watch once you’re there? Well, I’m here to clue you in on twenty-two of the films I’m most curious about this summer. Like with my Fall Preview last year, this will be a curtailed affair, so I won’t be slamming too many films as unwatchable, but in looking at the calendar, I don’t see many egregious offenders—for once. Maybe that means movies are getting better? But it’s probably more because Paul Blart 2 is a spring release.

Doug Reviews: The Gunman
Sean Penn tries to collect some of that sweet Liam Neeson money by teaming with Taken director Pierre Morel in The Gunman. Unfortunately, this doesn’t end up being a recreation of Penn’s movie-within-a-movie from What Just Happened. Continue reading
Doug Reviews: Insurgent
Basically, if you read my review of Divergent from last year, a lot of the criticisms still apply to its sequel, Insurgent. There is a point in the film where Tris (Shailene Woodley) literally turns to Four (Theo James) and says, “I know this doesn’t make any sense.” Truer words were never spoken, sweetheart. Continue reading
Doug Reviews: What We Do in the Shadows
What if four vampires shared a house in New Zealand? This is the premise behind the mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows and it is easily the funniest movie of last year. Continue reading
