The adaptation of author John Green’s bestselling novel, The Fault in Our Stars, has hit theaters and while the film does a lot of things right, there were a few major qualms I had with the story that kept me from loving it.

When I first saw the trailers for Director Doug Liman’s Edge of Tomorrow, I immediately thought, Oh, it’s the action sci-fi Groundhog Day. And while the conceit is very similar to that Harold Ramis classic, Edge of Tomorrow forges its own path to become something Hollywood has been chasing for decades: the ultimate video game film.
Maleficent is Disney’s latest attempt to rework one of their classic animated features in a live-action film. This one tackles Sleeping Beauty. Unfortunately, despite some nice special effects and a good lead performance, it ultimately falls short. Continue reading
Cold in July is a strange film. On the surface, it is a plain and simple revenge thriller, but there are a couple of twists that definitely throw the viewer for a loop. Unfortunately, these twists also come with an unraveling of the story’s internal logic, ruining what could have been a great movie and undermining some very good performances. Continue reading
